Cub Scout Pack #572 Cub Scouting is for boys who are in the first through fifth grade. Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the following:
The basic unit of the Cub Scout organization is the Pack. Pack 572 is chartered by Riverside Presbyterian Church, 21010 Southbank Street Suite 510, Sterling, Virginia 20165. Our pack meetings are held at Horizon Elementary School the 3rd Friday of each month. Pack 572 consists of approximately 80 boys, their adult partners and leaders, under the leadership of Cubmaster Paul McCray, Committee Chairman Mark Millsap. The pack is divided into smaller units of from 6 to 10 boys called 'dens'. Dens meet individually throughout the month for fellowship, learning opportunities and work toward advancement. First Graders are Tiger Cubs, second graders are Wolves, third graders are Bears, and fourth and fifth graders are Webelos. After the boys complete their Webelos experience, they graduate into a Boy Scout Patrol. Pack 572 sponsors various special activities throughout the year. In the fall, the boys and their families participate in many den activities and trips. This is also a time for us to participate in programs such as Crime Prevention and God and Country. January is Pinewood Derby time, when the boys race gravity-driven model cars that they design and prepare themselves. The anniversary of the birth of Scouting is in February, and all Cub Scouts traditionally celebrate at the Blue and Gold banquet with food and fun. Boys are welcome to join the pack at any time throughout the year, but Pack 572 visits its feeder organizations in the spring and fall for special recruiting drives. Kindergarteners are invited to visit the pack's Pinewood Derby race in January to get a taste of the fun and fellowship that awaits them beginning with their first grade year.
