Massachusetts Law Enforcement
Explorer Competition
Explorers from all over Massachusetts and two from
New York participated in the 2009 Massachusetts Law
Enforcement Explorer Competition at Mount Ida
College in Newton. The event was hosted by the
Newton Police Explorers.
Explorers competed in team events such as Motor
Vehicle Stops, Crime Scene Investigation, Hostage
Negotiations, Domestic Disturbance, Shoot/Don’t
Shoot and Building Search. Individual
Explorers competed in events such as career
development, mountain bike, firearms and emergency
driving. The day completed with the
ever-popular ‘Cruiser Push’ in which the entire post
pushes a police cruiser with a driver and a
passenger for a distance.
The overall winners of the competition were the
Explorers from the Portsmouth, New Hampshire Police
Department, Colonie, NY Post took second
and Franklin, MA Post came in third. This
event is a way for young Explorers to test their
skills. A special thank you goes out to Frank
Foley of the Newton Police Department and Troy
Santarlasci of Mount Ida College for all of their
hard work and dedication to this event
