Roundtable Reminder
Thursday, October 16th, 2008 at the
Holliston Fire Department (59 Central
St, Holliston) starting at 7pm
This is a communication forum for
council events, an opportunity to get
answers on questions, a place to discuss
cross town cooperation and council
events, and an ongoing training
session. What's not to love? The cub
leaders get program ideas for the
following month and have a lot of fun
doing them (Yvette Lavin and Muriel Hart
provide a wealth of experience and
ideas). The Scout leaders get training
on whatever topics they want (You can
play stump Phil! Philip Harvell has had
many years of training and Scouting
knowledge).
Please be advised that Charter Renewal
packets will be given out that night so
every unit should send someone to at
least pickup this packet so you can get
started on the chartering process. All
questions will be answered that night by
our Membership Chair Dennis Staires
concerning your charter packet.
The Scouting Program for this roundtable is
TREK Safely - All troops planning high
adventure should attend. All units and
districts are welcome
Trek Safely is the Boy Scouts of America’s
recommended procedure for organizing
and carrying out outdoor treks that involve
Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, and
Venturers. Trek Safely applies to all types
of outdoor experiences that involve
trekking, including hiking, backpacking,
canoeing, horseback riding, caving,
rafting, kayaking, sailing, ski touring,
mountain climbing, and mountain biking.
Trek Safely is designed to help youth and
adult leaders plan and carry out a safe
trekking experience for the members of their
unit. Similar to Safe Swim Defense,
Safety Afloat, and Climb On Safely, it is
not designed to teach the skills of
trekking. Units that choose to engage in
activities requiring specialized outdoor
skills should seek qualified instructors to
help members learn and acquire these
skills prior to the outing.
The Cub Scout program will be based on the
November Monthly Theme: Seeds of Kindness
Here is the official BSA theme description:
“As we approach Thanksgiving, let us spread
seeds of kindness in the form of multiple
small service projects. Helping others gives
the boys the opportunity to see the bounty
produced by spreading many small seeds of
kindness and encourages compassion. The boys
can discover that just as the large strong
oak tree came from the small acorn, big
things can happen from spreading small seeds
of kindness and charity."
