What is Scoutreach?
Scoutreach takes the principles and excitement of the Scouting program directly to youth who might otherwise not have an opportunity to participate in Scouting. Scoutreach is BSA's commitment to making sure that all young people have the opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or ethnic background.
How is this Accomplished in the Sinclair District?
Professional Scouters partner with community-based organizations already serving young people and organize interested youth in Scouting-oriented activities. We sometimes call this "Scouting-Lite". Youth are taught Scouting principles without the formal structure of a Pack, Troop, or Crew.
Who are the Scoutreach Partner Organizations in Kitsap County?
Scoutreach programs are currently operating at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Port Orchard, and North Mason, as well as through the Salvation Army, Bremerton Parks and Recreation, Kitsap County Consolidated Housing Authority, and the Bremerton Housing Authority's Westpark Community Center.
What are the Goals of Scoutreach?
A) Instill the principles of Scouting (as stated in the Scout Motto, Oath, and Law) into the lives of disadvantaged youth; and B) Provide opportunities for disadvantaged youth to join conventional Scouting units and participate fully in the programs of Scouting
What Can I do to Support Scoutreach in the Sinclair District?
If you have a Cub Pack, Scout Troop, or Venture Crew and are looking to increase membership and diversity, consider making your unit a place where an individual Scoutreach youth could join and become fully immersed in Scouting. Scoutreach gives youth a taste of the fun and excitement available through Scouting. Joining your unit gives them the full experience!
