Trail News of Note

Webelos Open House at November 12th Roundtable!  If you are a Webelos Scout, you will have a chance to meet Boy Scouts from several different troops in the district at the October Roundtable. All Boy Scout troops from the Kirkland and Redmond area will be invited to set up a table at the Webelos Open House to be held from 7:30PM to 8:30PM on Thursday, November 12th. Webelos and their parents are invited to meet boys from the various troops as well as some of the adult leaders. You can ask questions about Boy Scouts in general, learn about the various troops, and decide which troops that you might like to visit. Each Boy Scout troop has their own unique personality. Troops often have boys from several different Cub Scout Packs. Each Webelos can decide which troop meets their needs and is the best fit for them. This is a perfect opportunity to get to know several troops at the same time!  For more information, please contact Lisa Wylie at lisa.wylie@comcast.net

Sammamish Trails Popcorn  Deliveries - November 13-14!  We had a good year of sales and now it's time to deliver our final round of popcorn. We will be distributing popcorn Friday, November 13 from 3-8pm and Saturday from 10am-Noon. We are at a new warehouse in Kirkland; see district popcorn website above for details. We also need volunteers on Friday from noon-8PM and Saturday from 10AM-noon; we hope that we can get a representative from each unit for at least an hour or two.  Full details can be found at the Popcorn website at the link above!

Training for Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters, and anyone else interested in the program for a troop, is available on November 14. This helps you take advantage of the actual Boy Scout program, help the Scouts run the best possible program, and do it all with less effort and more success.

Dutch Oven Cooking Experience in June.  Ever been curious as to how those guys and gals manage to turn out everything from lasagna, roast beef and cornbread to peach cobbler, apple crisp and chocolate cakes, all in the middle of nowhere?  Join us at the Dutch Oven Cooking Experience this coming June to find out. This will be a full day of lessons, demonstrations, and hands-on cooking experience. You will learn how to prepare and maintain your cast iron, as well as how to cook with it. You will also come away with a cookbook on disk, containing hundreds of tried and true recipes.  Come HUNGRY. Fasting the night before is not a bad idea. See you there!  For questions or to volunteer, contact Jeff Gettmann at jg_scouting@hotmail.com

WashJam 2009 is over now, but what an event!  Thousands of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from across the state swarmed Fort Lewis over the WashJam weekend for a four-day campout, the largest Scout event ever held in Washington.  Read the Tacoma News Tribune article about it here.

Boy Scouts track down missing woman on Blake Island.  Scouts from one of our own units, Troop 570, put some of their scouting skills to the test on Saturday, May 30 and showed that they take the motto of "Be Prepared" to heart!  Their story was covered in the Kirkland Reporter, the Seattle PI web site and on TV by Q-13 Fox News.  Check the links above for the story details and a video of the news cast.  Great publicity for Scouting and highlights what all of our young people are capable of!
