Description:

Who: We are a Sea Scout unit focused on building and crewing of a Native Alaskan boat; here is a brief overview of our project..
• What: A project to build a 26 foot Umiak skin on frame boat by the crew members for the crew and the community
Where: Kent/Meridian Community with the possibility of sails, mast and oar construction in Anacortes at the Skinboat School, once constructed, paddling, rowing and sail training on Lake Meridian
When: start in March
Why: provide a vehicle for up to twelve crew members to explore together the rivers, lakes and salt water of the Pacific Northwest; possible long term goal of participation in the Pacific Challenge and or the Shipyard School Raid
How: Construction through the labor of the crew, financial resources through crew fundraising and sponsorship, basic hull construction time estimated at 80hrs
• The Sea Scout program is a co-educational part of the Boy Scouts of America Venturing program for young adults between the ages of 14 and 21. Sea Scouting is an experience based program organized to promote better citizenship and youth leadership.
