-        Backpacking

-        Summer Camp

-        The troop goes on campouts every month, year-around.

Camping Costs:

Most campouts cost $8 for meals.  There are a few campouts that will raise the cost, such as the yearly Illinois River canoe trip and Webelos Woods (part of that money is for registration).

Troop Dues:

Dues are $80.00/year and include the registration fee of $19.80 (with Boys Life).  The troop provides all camping equipment (except personal gear) and the dues money covers transportation costs, the cost of maintaining camping equipment, trailer maintenance, as well as advancements and other expenses.

Fundraising:

The troop holds several fundraising efforts throughout the year to provide the boys an opportunity to ‘pay their own way’.  Each boy has an account established in his name to put any proceeds from his fundraising efforts.  This money can only be used for campouts, summer camp, or other scout related expenses.

Uniform:

The troop would like to see everyone in the full Scout uniform; however, the minimum required items are the Scout shirt (Class A), belt and the troop scarf.  The troop maintains a uniform exchange closet.

Details:

Troop 291 is a boy-led troop.  They do this by the Patrol Leaders Council (PLC).  The PLC consists of a Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and Patrol Leaders (PL) and they determine the direction of the troop.  They plan the monthly meetings, courts of honor, and campouts.  The Scoutmaster acts as advisor to the PLC.

Service Projects:

Service projects are done at nearly every campout at the campsite area.

Some community service projects that the troop performs are:

·         Placing flags at the Moore Cemetery on Memorial Day

·         Street cleanup

·         Church service projects

Parent Participation:

The troop committee is responsible to make the program work for the boys.  All parents are invited to participate to the fullest extent possible in the troop committee.  Parents are invited to go on all troop activities; however, parents must be trained in ‘Youth Protection’ to go on campouts.
