Klondike Derby

All Scouts and Webelos are invited to re-enact the historic trek to the Klondike. Scouts will pull homemade sleds from Skagway to Dawson; en route they will encounter problems that require basic Scout skills to overcome.

WHEN:

Saturday, (See above for the next date)
Check-in at 9 AM
Opening will be at 9:50 AM
Events begin at 10 AM
Soup Pot - 11 AM to 1:30 PM
6 Events - Ends at 1:00 PM
Final Race starts at 2 PM
Awards at 2:30 PM


 

WHERE:

L.D.S. Ensign Ranch at exit 78 on I-90 between Easton and Cle Elum. Go north under the freeway and drive about two miles west.

COST:

$7.00 registration per team of four to eight boys plus $3.50 for each Scout and adult for use of the ranch. Pay ranch use fee at gate.

SLEDS:

All sleds must be homemade. There is no size or shape limit but they should resemble the sketch below. Skis may be used for runners.


 

OVERNIGHT CAMPING:

Units may camp overnight on Friday or Saturday by making reservations. Call the camp ranger at (509) 656-23 44. The cabin fee will apply against the day fee.

WEBELOS:

Webelos Scouts are welcome to participate in the derby. They will receive their event ribbons. Bring dry socks for cold feet.

AWARDS:

Each team will receive a participation ribbon. There will also be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons for Scouts and Webelos Scouts for each event as well as trophies for the overall winners.

TEAM RULES:

A team consists of two to eight scouts. A troop may enter as many teams as they wish. However, the team that signs in must stay together for all events including the races. No substitutions from other teams are permitted.

GRUB:

Each person brings two 10oz. cans of soup for the soup pot. A lunch and snack to eat between events are a must for everyone


Bring dry socks for cold feet
