Scout Leader Training
New Leader Essentials | Cub Scouts | Boy Scouts | Venturing
Training is offered for Scout Leaders of all levels. Who needs training?
- All new leaders.
- Experienced leaders assuming a new position.
- Continuing leaders whose training was more than 2 years ago.
Training for Scout Leaders underwent major revisions in 2002. These courses are designed to require less time on the part of leaders.
The first training is Fast Start training, which gives the basics of Scouting. Fast Start training is the first step for any new volunteer and is to be delivered immediately after a new leader registers and before he or she meets with any youth member.
Rather than train everyone on all positions in a unit, the new courses start with an overview of the entire scouting program, explaining the aims and objectives of Scouting and describing the different programs (Cubs, Boy Scouts, Venturing, etc.) and how they fit together. After this, you take only those courses with the specific information you need for YOUR position. If you change positions, you need not retake the overview, just the specific courses for the new position.
