Guide to Boy Scout Training

| TO BE CONSIDERED "TRAINED" AS A: Committee Member: You must take New Leader Essentials and Troop Committee Challenge. Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster: You must take New Leader Essentials, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Training and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills Training. NEW LEADER ESSENTIALS TRAINING: This is a great new 90-minute fundamental-level training course for all new and untrained Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venturing Leaders, where you can learn what Scouting's all about, your role in it and where you can get help. This course is a pre-requisite for all the other courses. No charge, No pre-registration required! SCOUTMASTER AND ASSISTANT SCOUTMASTER SPECIFIC TRAINING: It's an all-day Saturday course that provides most of the basics that Scoutmasters and their Assistants need to operate a great boy-run Scouting program. The patrol method, the advancement program, the outdoor program, troop operation, ... it's all there! You should have completed New Leader Essentials Training before attending this course (but it is possible to complete it later). Committee people and parents are also welcome to attend. Bring a lunch and your Scoutmaster's Handbook. No charge, No pre-registration required! INTRODUCTION TO OUTDOOR LEADER SKILLS TRAINING This course is intended to give Scoutmasters and Assistants and any other adults in the Troop who instruct Scouts in First-Class outdoor skills the knowledge to be confident in teaching them. It comprises a Saturday in town plus a Friday/Saturday overnight in the outdoors, and is organized in a patrol and buddy style, where you learn by practicing the skills in small groups. It'll be intensive, but it'll be FUN and very useful! You should have completed New Leader Essentials Training and Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training before attending this course (but it is possible to complete them later). Cost $17, Pre-registration is required! TROOP COMMITTEE CHALLENGE This really excellent course provides Troop Committee people with the Big Picture of Scouting and detailed knowledge of the role of the Committee and their own position in making that happen. This course is offered to individual Troops, contact Larry Clark, BS Training Chair to schedule your Troop. No charge! YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING BSA's Youth Protection program has been recognized for some years as an outstanding model for other youth organizations to follow. Larry Clark SAFETY AWARENESS TRAINING (HEALTH & SAFETY) Our most important responsibility to the youth in our care is their SAFETY!!! This 70-minute course covers the nuts and bolts of BSA's excellent Safety Awareness Program, including "The Sweet 16 of Safety". No charge, No pre-registration required!
